MSgt Norwood began his shooting career in 1985 as a club service rifle shooter and then migrated to pistol with his hiring at NGMTU in 1991 where he has developed into one of the best service pistol gunsmiths and shooters in the country. In his 20 years of competitive marksmanship, he has earned the Pistol President's Hundred Tab, Distinguished Pistol Badge, and the Distinguished Rifleman Badge. He is respected as one of the best .45 pistol gunsmiths in the country by all other military service gunsmiths and competitors nationwide. He continues to serve as the All Guard Team gunsmith and an active shooter for the Service Pistol team where he has guided the team to numerous awards and accomplishments. His contributions to marksmanship also include being a member of several all-Guard National Record Pistol Teams, promoting the shooting program for juniors, other units within the state, and Guard members who are still active in the shooting program today. His guidance as a gunsmith, shooter, and coach have contributed to the success of the All Guard Pistol Team. Within the state of Arkansas and National Guard, MSgt Norwood is revered as the pinnacle of marksmanship, his leadership, coaching ability, dedication to marksmanship and pistol gunsmith work continues to set the example. SGT Richard began his shooting career in 1971 at the age of 13 with the Boy Scouts and then migrated to 100 yard bench rest rifle. In 1994, he had developed into one of the best combat rifle shooters in the country. In his 34 years of competitive marksmanship, he has earned the Pistol President's Hundred Tab (2000 & 2001), Distinguished Rifleman Badge (1997), the Distinguished Pistol Badge (2002), and National Guard Chief's 50 Marksmanship Badge in rifle and sniper (numerous time). He is respected as one of the best all around combat rifle and pistol shooters in the country - by all the other military service competitors nationwide. He continues to serve as a shooter and coach for the All Guard Combat Team (1994-Present), and is a shooter for the National Match Rifle Team (2000-Present). He has helped these teams win numerous awards and accomplishments. His contributions to marksmanship include being a member of several All Guard National and International teams, state shooting team, and is a guard member who is still active in the shooting program today. His guidance as a shooter and coach has contributed to the success of the All Guard Combat Team. Within the state of Indiana and the United States National Guard, he is revered as the epitome of excellence in marksmanship. His leadership, coaching ability, and dedication to marksmanship continues to set the example. LTC Tryce (Ret) has made numerous contributions to both the State of Texas and the National Guard Marksmanship Program. He served as assistant State Marksmanship Coordinator (SMC) (1984-2000). He made significant advances to the state program by introducing both Lignt Machine Gun (LMG) and sniper competitions, as well as updating the rifle and pistol programs to reflect combat focused competition. He encouraged the participation of United States Army Reserve (USAR), United States Marine Corps Reserve (USMCR), and Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in the state Adjutant General (AG) matches. He also updated the state's marksmanship regulation which was subsequently emulated by other state marksmanship programs. In the last years of his assignment as SMC, he focused on improving combat readiness of units through PMIs and train-the-trainer classes for those units deploying overseas. He continuously promoted the Texas marksmanship program to the TAG and his key staff officers which resulted in the TAG or the assistant TAG attending numerous Winston P. Wilson (WPW) award ceremonies. He served on Marksmanship Training Unit PAT teams dealing with the future of the National Guard marksmanship program and ammunition management. In addition, he serves as a member of the Marksmanship Advisory Counsel (MAC) and was selected as SMC of the year in 1999. He is a graduate of Small Arms Instruction and Operation Course (SAIROC) and Marksmanship Mobile Training Course (MMTC). He acted as OIC for both the International Shotgun Team and All Guard Service Rifle Team. During his tenure, he was able to increase the budgets of both programs and purchase new equipment for the Service Rifle Team. The Service Rifle Team won numerous individual and team awards during his appointment. Finally, as a member of the Texas State Guard, he currently acts as advisor to the All Guard Service Rifle Team and has been responsible for coordinating cost effective train-ups at Camp Swift Texas for the All Guard Rifle Team. He also oversees the coordination for acquisition of M1 Garands for retiring members of the All Guard Service Rifle Team at its yearly banquet held at Camp Perry, Ohio. His legacy is a vibrant and extremely competitive state marksmanship program that has produced several individual champions in both domestic and international competition and two national team championships at WPW (2002-2003). He created an environment of collaboration between the Texas marksmanship program and the Marksmanship Training Unit which still exists today. He continues to be actively involved in National Guard Marksmanship. He is Double Distinguished and is a life member of AMNG.
