Col Kenneth Buster (retired)

Col  Buster began shooting in the mid 60’s as a SP4. During this time he was all-American for four years at SW Missouri State College, while shooting for the Missouri National Guard. He was a member of the all guard pistol team from 1969 to 1988. Earning triple distinguished status, he was the first member of the Guard to earn this status, the 17th person in U.S. history to earn it and the only person to earn all three badges as a Guardsman. During his tenure he served as OIC of the all Guard International Team and the all guard pistol team. In the period 1973-1978 he was a member if the U.S. Shooting Team earning nine gold medals for his country. In 1977, he won gold in Mexico City and was the Pan-American Champ. He was a two time Winston P. Wilson Pistol Champ. Five time All Army Champ. Four time High National Guard Shooter at the National Championships at Camp Perry and held 52 national and international records. He was selected to command the MTU upon its move from Tennessee and was the founder of the AFSAM and the Interservice Combat Championships. From 1967-1995 he devoted his time, skills and knowledge to the Marksmanship program of the National Guard.



CW4 Hager Hollon

CW4 Hollon joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1963 and began his shooting career in 1968. He transferred to the National Guard in 1973 and has been associated with the National Guard Rifle Team, nationally and internationally from 1976 to present as a shooter, coach, and assistant OIC and OIC. His efforts have advanced the marksmanship program to a higher level of competence. His major shooting awards include The Chief’s 50, President’s 100, and the Rifle Distinguished Shooting Badge. Over the years, he has coached several winning All Guard Teams at the National’s at Camp Perry, Ohio. The Infantry Trophy Team Match was always one of his favorites and he always excelled while coaching this competition, split second decisions on the firing line is what set him apart from other coaches. While under his leadership, his teams defeated some of the best from the Marines and Active Duty Teams.



CMS Lloyd Nelson (retired)

CMS Nelson began his military career 29 January 1944 and served in Japan and Korea until 1952. Enlisted in grade of MSgt in 138th Air Transport Group in 1963, where he organized a rifle and pistol team. He began shooting in competition with small bore rifle in 1954, won 4th Army Area, Chief NGB Championship four times and Chief NGB indoor Individual Championship in 1963. He was selected as coach for the All National Guard Team in 1969, served in that capacity for a number of years and as the training NCO and NCOIC, was instrumental in organizing a coach’s school at Little Rock, AR and in shooting clinics for several states and Puerto Rico. As a competitor, he won the Fourth Army Individual High Power Championship in 1970 at Camp Bullis, Texas. As a coach he coached 32 winning teams in All Army Rifle Matches at Fort Benning, GA from 1976- 1982. He retired from the Air National Guard in Dec 1985 as Chief Master Sergeant with over 40 years of service. He served as an NRA Match Official at the National High Power Rifle Championships from 1986 through 1999.
